BC International to use subsidiary as sourcing point

Geeta Nair
Pune, Dec 1: BC Components India Pvt Ltd, the new owners of Philips India's non-ceramic passive components business, will be a a global sourcing point for the $500 million BC International of Netherlands.

Business plans will be crystallised after the group CEO visits India next month, BC Components India managing director RG Deshpande said. BC Components is expecting a turnover of around Rs 80 crore by end of December 1999. As of now exports have a small share of 3 to 4 per cent but this share is expected to increase. Asia Pacific is a focus area for the parent company and the addition of the Indian facility will strengthen production base in the region, says Deshpande.

The emphasis will be on the automotive sector especially ignition system for the two wheeler industry. As BC Components is a multi-product manufacturer unlike all other facilities of BC worldwide which are single or two product facilities, the Indian company will be able to adapt different technologies from the parent company easily.
