Mumbai, Dec 1: Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co (Telco) announced on Wednesday that it has begun to accept fresh orders for its small car Indica which will be delivered from January next year.

By December, the company would have completed the servicing of bookings for Indica that had been accepted in January this year. Indica has achieved a cumulative sales figure of 33,409 units since launch and a sale of 31,243 units in the current fiscal till November-end. The company had earlier said that due to delay in its delivery schedule, there has been cancellations of over 15,000 against allotment of 60,000 units.Sales of Indica has reached a new peak in November with Telco posting its highest ever monthly sale of 5,214 cars, a growth of 9.9 per cent over October sales of 4,744 cars. The previous highest sale was registered in September when Telco sold 5,044 cars.

In the April-October period of the current fiscal, Indica has achieved a market share of 7.8 per cent of the total passenger car market and 17.6 per cent in the small car segment.

The company is currently working on various variants of Indica, with a hatchback version understood to be its top priority. The stretched version is likely to be launched sometime in the second half of the next calendar year.

Though Telco has kept its new car launch plan a closely-guarded secret, it is learnt that it is developing a four-door sedan version on the same platform.
