New Delhi, Dec 1: Maruti Udyog Ltd continued its upward run in November with 14.4 per cent increase in sales over October this year. The market leader sold 32,155 units in November 1999 as against 28,095 units in the previous month.Maruti Zen maintained its lead in the small car segment by selling 7,226 units in November. This marks nearly 40 per cent growth in sales last year in the same period when the company sold 5,169 units.
Riding on the demand for its small car Matiz, Daewoo Motors India registered sales of 3,370 units in November as against 3,259 units sold in October. Matiz sales went up to 3,139 units compared to 2,940 units sold in the previous month, a jump of 7 per cent.
Meanwhile, the other Korean player Hyundai Motors recorded a marginal growth of 1.5 per cent in sales of its small car Santro in November by selling 6,301 units against 6,207 units in the previous month. The company also dispatched 670 units of its newly launched mid-size car Accent during November 1999.
In the first seven months of the current fiscal (April-October), Maruti achieved a 24 per cent rise in sales having sold 2,52,498 units as against 2,04,147 units in the same period last year. The company has recorded a 76 per cent growth in sales in November compared to that in the same month last year when it sold 18,241 units.
In the last one year, sales of Maruti Omni almost doubled with the company having sold 7,518 units compared to 3,585 units in November 1998.
Maruti 800 model registered a sales growth of 86.7 per cent to 16,178 units during November from 8,662 cars in the same month of 1998.
Hyundai on Wednesday said that with November sales the company surpassed its annual sales target of 52,000 units in the calender year 1999. During January-November 1999, Hyundai sold 53,357 units of Santro.
