Jindal loses out as Deepak Shourie anchors Zee News

Siddharth Zarabi
New Delhi, Nov 29: In a major restructuring of Zee Telefilms, Deepak Shourie has been given complete responsibility for all news-related products, including the main Zee News and regional channels.

In his capacity as one of the CEOs of ZTL, Shourie will also be responsible for the development of the English news channel. The marketing division for the entire news segment will also report to Shourie. He will also represent the company in Delhi for all corporate/strategic and policy-related affairs as "a single unified voice".

According to a circular, the new responsibilities will be in addition to his present assignment as the co-promoter for Zee Publishing. The order also says that the news segment will now be treated as a separate profit centre within the organisation.

Observers say Vijay Jindal, CEO of Zee Network and MD of ZTL, who had been recently made co-promoter of the media business through sweat equity and stock options, seems to have lost some of his clout. Jindal will now be responsible onlyfor the recently announced Internet service provider E-Connect. The other CEO RK Singh continues in his earlier capacity as the head of the pay channel business.
