The four new Ps of customer service The session on `Competing in Turbulent Markets' came to a sizzling draw with Santosh K Sood, associate director, Lintas, enunciating an innovative doctrine for customer service consisting of four Ps: Paisa, Profit, Portfolio and Pataana. Sood then took a straw poll on popular film actresses-only to prove that the young audience was easily swayed between favourites like Madhuri Dixit, Neelam and Karisma Kapoor. The moral: the more choices, the more fickle the decisionmaking.Job's dilemma Rajeev Karwal must have generously agreed to chair a session around the time he was putting in his papers at LG. So, tactfully, the first schedule of the seminar, simply designated Karwal as `A&M's best marketing man of the year'. However, with the news going public that Karwal is joining Philips India, the final schedule listed Karwal as the senior vice-president, consumer electronics division, Philips India. Of course, the irony is that Karwal does not formally joinPhilips, till December 15, 1999. Perhaps, senior vice-president-in-waiting might have been more appropriate. Learning lessons For the first time this year, the Institute kicked off a two-year, post-graduate diploma in advertising and communication management: and was happy to report 30 students signing up. What the faculty is particularly proud of is the thrust to make the courseware relevant to business needs. One such tack: a module on production management, so that even the budding communication managers get to the shopfloor. u Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
