`FCI must get out of procurement'

Tina Edwin
New Delhi, Nov 28: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India has suggested supply of relatively inferior quality grains and sale of loose cooking oil through the public distribution system as a measure to keep the non-poor out of that system. The chamber has further suggested that the Food Corporation of India be relieved of the responsibility of procuring grains for PDS.

Outlining a an eight point agenda based on self-selection mechanism for revamping the PDS, Assocham has stated the quotas should be made available at more frequent intervals, such as once-a-week.
