Northwest monsoon intensifies in South 

 
New Delhi, Nov 28: During the week ending November 24, the northeast monsoon was vigorous over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala. Rainfall also occurred at many places in Rayalseema, south interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep, at a few places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar islands and at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Megahalaya, sub himalayan west bengal and sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir and coastal Karnataka. The weather remained mainly dry in the rest regions of the country.

Night temperatures were above normal by two degree centigrade to four degree centigrade in Rajasthan, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim and northeastern states on some days of the week.

These were below normal by three to four degree centigrade in Orissa, south Andhra Pradesh and interior Maharashtra during the first half week of the week and nearly normal elsewhere in the country. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains of the country was 5.7 degreecentigrade recorded at Amritsar in Punjab on 21 November 1999. During the period October 1 to November 24, 1999 the cumulative rainfall was normal to excess in 30 out of 35 meteorological subdivisions of the country.

Outlook for week ending December 1:
Isolated rain or snowfall is likely over western himalayas. Scattered rainfall activity is likely over south peninsula.

Rainfall distribution realised:
Weekly rainfall during the week ending on 24 November was deficient in Arunachal Pradesh, normal in coastal Andhra Pradesh, scanty in Andaman and Nicobar islands, Assam and Meghalaya, sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka. Rainfall was in excess in Rayalaseema, Pondicherry south interior Karanataka, Kerala and Laskhadweep.

There was no rain in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar plateau, Bihar plains, East Uttar Pradesh, plains of west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, HimachalPradesh, west Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Gujarat region and Maharashtra.

Seasonal rainfall during the period 1 October to 24 November, has been in excess Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, sub himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar plateau and plains, east Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat region, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshawadeep. Deficient in Telengana and Rayalseema. Normal in Andaman and Nicobar islands, Nagaland Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
