Under the aegis of the German Embassy, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) is organising the Deutscher Weihnachtsmarkt-the German Christmas Market-to bring alive the spirit and style of the German Christmas here in Delhi. The market will be held at the German House in Chanakyapuri on December 4 and 5.Germans celebrate Christmas in a different way. For them, Christmas is a personal event, so they spend a lot of time at regional German markets to buy gifts for family and friends.
The German Christmas Market being organised in Delhi is a replica of regional German Christmas markets and will provide an opportunity for Germans here to share their cultural experiences and festive spirit with their Indian friends. Bringing the two nations closer not only in terms of enhanced economic ties, but interpersonal interaction as well, is the primary objective behind putting together cultural events such as this.
Being organised for the second time this year, the German Christmas Market will bring a collectionof Christmas decorations, festive goodies, home accessories, candles, greeting cards, handicrafts, gift items and much more that you would wish to buy around Christmas and New Year time. More than 60 Indian and German companies will display their products at the market. Beer from Haacke Beck and Hofbraeu, beauty products from Vivea and Wella, knives and manicure tools from Zwilling and perfumes and toiletries from Tabac are some of the special German products that will be on display.
Organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, the event is a joint effort by the German School, the Federation of Indo-German Societies and Lufthansa German Airlines. The sponsors for the German Christmas Market are Zwilling, Nivea, Wella, Indomag Steel Technology, Blaupunkt, Zodiac, Hotel International, Luxor Writing Instruments Ltd, C Lal & Sons and Mahajan Textiles.
Special attractions for kids will include a painting competition, Christmas tree, games and lucky draws. A Santa Claus with free gifts for children andChristmas carols will complete the Christmas ambience. While the kids enjoy the German Christmas cake, adults can have their fill of German sausages specially imported from Germany for the event.
