Mini K Joseph
Bangalore, Nov 24: Standard Chartered Bank is aiming to emerge as the strongest bank in Asia with a major focus on India, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, according to Standard Chartered Plc chairman Sir Patrick Gillam.

Gillam on Wednesday said, "In India and Taiwan the bank was looking for organic growth. He said the South Asian crisis has given the bank good exposure and experience in the banking business." It has already acquired Nakokhoran Bank of Thailand and Bank Bali of Indonesia.

The bank's head for consumer banking in India Harpal Dugal said in India the bank was aiming for the top in three years by improving the market share in all of its businesses including treasury, corporate banking and consumer banking. "We will improve our market share in all the areas of our operation within few years," Dugal said.
