R Ravichandran
Hyderabad, Nov 24: The Rs 800-crore Kinetic Motor Company Ltd, the leader in auto start, auto gear scooters in India, is set to roll out its much-talked first-ever 100cc motorcycle during mid-December all over the country including rural markets.

The vice-president (sales & marketing), Shyam Mani, told The Financial Express that the company will initially plans to sell only 1000 vehicles till March 2000 for want of response from the market. Once test driven, the company will begin full production from April 2000, Mani added.

"This could be possible after taken over the entire stake from Honda of Japan," Mani said. The company is making elaborate plans to introduce the motorcycle through media blitzkrieg, dealers. However, the exact date has not been fixed. "It will be in the middle of December," he said. According to him, the vehicle's design and style have been derived out of Hero Splendor, Bajaj Caliber and Yamaha YBX. It will have distinct features as compared to its rivals.

The company is working out on the price front and will be competitively priced. He refused to disclose the price of the motorcycle, however, hinted at the price would be above Rs 40,000. The group has recently tied up with Hyosung Corporation of South Korea to introduce GF model motorcycles in India.

Earlier, launching the Kinetic Style, a 75cc scooterette, in Hyderabad for Andhra Pradesh market, Mani said the company hopes to garner a 25 per cent scooterette market share in 2000. Already 6000 vehicles have been sold by the company in India.

It is the fast growing market with more than 2 lakh scooterettes per annum being sold in India. Kinetic Style will be supported with a nationwide press and television campaign. With this the company has come closer to its vision `A Kinetic for everyone', Mani said.

He said that Kinetic Style will capture major slice of TVS Scooty and Bajaj Spirit market pie. With the good response, the vehicle will be made available all over India soon.
