Mumbai, Nov 23: When Lalit Kapoor and Ashish Bajpai, employees at the Rs 319-crore Core Healthcare Ltd, were rewarded under the "You Have Made It" programme for achieving stretch at the workplace, there was no end to their motivational spirit.Says Lalit Kapoor, regional sales manager based in Delhi: ``I was thrilled to get recognition in the form of `You Have Made It'. I feel happy to be a part of an organisation where performance is appreciated at the right time. I'm still young and this recognition has inspired me to perform better and grow.''
Ashish Bajpai, field sales manager based at Gorakhpur, was also recognised for excellence in sales performance. Says he: ``I have been promoted to this post two months ago, I was overjoyed to receive the `You Have Made It' award. It was a recognition not only for me but for all my team members as well. The `smile' on the certificate makes me more enthusiastic towards my work and energises me.''
At Core Healthcare `You Have Made It' is the badge only super-acheivers wear. Lalit Kapoor and Ashish Bajpai won the award not because they achieved their sales targets-but because they surpassed them phenomenally.
``The `You Have Made It' recognition was instituted by the company on January 7, 1999 and is awarded for functional excellence. The programme has been designed to recognise and reward employees who have over-achieved, or gone that extra mile in their daily work. Such a recognition can be a powerful motivator,'' says Core Healthcare vice president (HRD) Beena Handa.
About 900 people-against a total strength of 2,500-have been rewarded under the "You Have Made It" programme at Core, since the inception of the award. The contents of this reward is a certificate and a token gift. For example, the company has silk ties specially made with `Metamorphosis' printed on the reverse. "Metamorphosis: Creating the future together", is the theme on which Core builds its HRD programme.
These awards are announced once in two months coinciding with an open session. For every cycle, nominations are received from functional heads. These nominations are then scrutinized by a committee of seven senior people. The nominations consist of the names of the individuals with a description of the achievement, whether it is qualitative or quantitative. Details are required to be furnished in the event that the achievement is of a quantitative nature.
``The "You Have Made It" recognition is done on a cross sectional manner, across departments, and across hierarchy. The programme is working well in the organisation and fulfilling the purpose for which it was launched. However, if need be we may modify it as and when we feel the necessity to do so,'' said Handa.
``The employee involvement has improved significantly. Earlier, it was only the top management which nominated the performers. Now this has percolated down to the functional and divisional heads and to the RSM level in the field,'' she adds.
Core is a multi-product company with a wide range of healthcare products in total parenteral nutrition, blood products, renam care, medical disposables and small volume parenterals, in addition to intravenous fluids.
Efforts such as "You Have Made It" are part of the company's plans to change the organisation totally in terms of customer focus, product portfolio, financial strategy, deployment of resources including human energy to meet the challenges of the future. ``The company decided to review the present situation as perceived by the people, and not just the top managers to get a feel of what they expect of the organisation,'' sums up Handa. In that sense, by setting up the new reward scheme, Core has made it.
