Honda signs pact with HSIDC to set up 2-wheeler plant

New Delhi, Nov 23: Japan's Honda Motor Company, the largest two-wheeler company in the world, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) on Tuesday for setting up its state-of-the-art two and three wheeler manufacturing facility at Manesar, in Haryana.The MoU was signed by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (Pvt) Ltd director Hideo Tanaka and HSIDC managing director Dr Harbakhsh Singh. The project will be owned and operated by Honda's newly incorporated wholly-owned subsidiary Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, which had been approved by Foreign Investment Promotion Board in August, 1999. The new project will represent Honda group's project for the next millennium and undiluted and concerted financial and technological commitment towards the development of two wheeler industry in India through its joint venture and technical collaboration with Hero and Kinetic, respectively. Speaking on this occasion, Honda director and Deputy COO, Asia, Satoshi Toshida, disclosed that the initial project cost of Rs 195 crore will essentially be met out of equity finance by the parent company.
