Parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu to witness heavy rains

Pune, Nov 21: Forecast valid until the morning of Monday said rain or snow is likely to occur at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, at many places in Lakshadweep, at a few places in south interior Karnataka and at isolated places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and coastal Karnataka. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country.

Heavy rainfall warning: Heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala during next 48 hours.

The cyclonic circulation over southwest bay off Sri Lanka coast persists and extends upto lower tropospheric levels. A trough in the lower levels lies from Karnataka coast to commor in area. The western disturbance as an upper air system over Jammu and Kashmir and neighbourhood in the lower levels is moving northeastwards.

Northeast monsoon has been active in Tamil Nadu rain or thundershowers have occurred at a fewplaces in Kerala and Lakshadweep and at isolated places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka.

Very light rain has also occurred at isolated places in coastal Karnataka mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.

Chief amounts of rainfall in cms are: Vedaranniyam 8.8, Palayamkottai 4.6, Nellore 4.5, Nagapattinam 4.2, Thiruvanthapuram 3.5, Alapuzha 2.3, Kaveli 1.9, Chennai city 1.5, Mandya 0.8, Kondul 0.6, Minicoy 0.5 and Tirupathi AP 0.4.

Night temperatures were appreciably below normal in madhya Maharashtra and north Telangana and in some parts of Haryana, east Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and of north interior Karnataka and were below normal in Punjab, Marathwada and Vidarbha and in some parts of north Gujarat region and of north Karnataka.

They were appreciably above normal in some parts of Assam and Meghalaya, Rajasthan and of Rayalaseema and were above normal in gangetic West Bengal, south Gujarat region, Kutch and southcoastal Andhra Pradesh and in remaining parts of Saurashtra. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh and plains of west Uttar Pradesh from where the data were sparse.
