Chennai, Nov 21: The Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) is in the centre stage of Indian leather industry's export efforts. The infrastructure in CLRI is catering to the needs of the Indian shoe industry by providing consultancy, quality assurance, design and CAD pattern engineering services and trained manpower, scientist in charge of Shoe Design and Development Centre at CLRI, MD Sadiq, told The Financial Express.The premier leather research institute is concentrating on areas like indigenous shoe component resourcing, product planning and improvements in production technique scientifically, he added.
Sadiq is the vice-president of the Modeeurope and plays a key role in leather colour and fashion forecasts. CLRI helps the Indian leather industry to keep track of the developments in the world market.
There is an increasing awareness among the shoe manufacturers about the need to follow the changing fashion trends and to be able to cater to the new markets and buyers with fashionableleathers and products. About the role fashion forecasts play in shoe exports, he said ``the CLRI forecasts services in leather colours and shoe design will definitely guide the Indian manufacturer to prepare the right product for the right market, thereby contributing to increase in exports. Now the Indian manufacturer wants to explore new markets and hence in-house.
