Select shares bounce back

Press Trust of India
Calcutta, Nov 19: Select shares bounced back on the Calcutta Stock Exchange helping the otherwise quiet market to maintain some semblance of steadiness on Friday. The turnover was moderate and undertone was quietly steady.

The CSE's 40-share index closed the day at 2192.92 points. The movements earlier was between 2218.91 and 2190.19 points.

Larson & Toubro spurted to close at Rs 411.90 on active support while Jaiprakash Industries improved to Rs 59.25 with Himachal Futuristic marked up to Rs 374.40 and Tata Tea to Rs 529.60. Small gains were noted in TISCO, TELCO, SBI, ITC and Bata. But Hind Lever lost ground at Rs 2285.50.

Sathyam Computer recovered to Rs 1638.30 as did Pentafour Software to Rs 667.40 while Ranbaxy Laboratories wound up at Rs 925.50. Interest in non-specified shares was again restricted with investors showing reluctance on Friday to add to their holdings.

On the Madras Stock Exchange, too, info-tech counters helped the market sentiment as values of scrips firmed up to settle with moderate gains on the Madras Stock Market.

A few counters declined to end with marginal losses on a day when there was no transaction of index-based scrips. The MSE index remained unchanged at its previous closing of 4748.63 points.

Sofia Soft further improved by Rs 10.80 to Rs 240. Kale Consultant firmed up by Rs 12.40 to Rs 294.70. Advent Computer rose to Rs 57.65 from Rs 53.50. Transmedi strengthened by Rs 4 to Rs 8.
