Edutech Informatics plans a foray into software business

Geeta Nair
Pune, Nov 19: Edutech Informatics India Pvt Ltd, which is into IT training and education, is planning to enter the software business through the acquisition route. Pradeep Tripathi, MD and CEO of Edutech Informatics, said the company is looking at companies that are into e-commerce and web-based products and services. The acquisitions are likely to be funded through raising the equity. There are plans to raise equity from the existing Rs 8.5 crore to around Rs 20 crore, Tripathi indicated.

Edutech Informatics is a joint venture between the Singapore-based Informatics Holdings (25 per cent) and Edutech India Ltd (60 per cent). The JV was formed in August 1998 by taking over the existing network of 60 Informatics Computer Institutes. Earlier Informatics was present in India through a master franchisee agreement. In the last one year Edutech Informatics has crossed 100 centres in the country and is looking at further expansion by focusing on Maharashtra.

Instead of vying for small markets in the metros the company is targeting interiors of the state through strategic tie-ups with leading education institutions. The effort would be to break away from the metro-centric mould and move to C,D and E class cities which have been ignored so far, Tripathi said. From the existing five centres outside Mumbai the company wants to set up 20 centres across the state.
