Computer Associates ties up with Datamatics to expand EDC network

Mumbai, Nov 18: US-based Computer Associates International Inc on Thursdayannounced a partnership with Indian software company Datamatics Ltd as partof its enterprise delivery centre (EDC) network expansion plan worldwide."CA's global professional services (GPS) division adopts partnership modelthrough EDCs in expanding its reach worldwide," Computer Associatesexecutive vice-president and general manager, GPS, Christopher Wagner, toldPTI here.

Datamatics, with over 1,000 clients in 58 countries, is a specialist inproviding services across the seas through satellite-linked communicationsystems for over 20 years, he said.

GPS division, which was formed a couple of years ago by CA as part ofentering consultancy services business, works in the areas of infrastructuremanagement application development and integration, Y2K compliance services,asset management and end-user productivity, he added.

EDCs are set up to accelerate project delivery through access tohighly-skilled personnel, enhance quality through adherence to standards andbest practices, and reduce risk through simulation, he added.

"Datamatics brings to the partnership a complex satellite logistics systemand proven ISO 9000 standards for software development, besides itsproficiency in world languages," he said.

Datamatics also specialises in custom software, legacy transformation andmigration, business process re-engineering and data processing, Wagner said,adding CA has forged partnership after ascertaining the quality benchmarksadopted by it.

"Datamatics and CA are both prominent players in the Indian infotechmarketplace and through this partnership we will deliver new levels ofdevelopment quality and business value, not only in India, but to theworld," Datamatics chairman Lalit Kanodia said.

Datamatics will adapt CA's accelerated delivery methodology to provideclient solutions while focusing on technology integration, applicationmanageability and development and deployment timeframes, he added.Wagner said GPS has eight EDCs in the US, two in Europe and one inAustralia, and plans to open additional centres in the other locales of theworld.

EDCs have access to high-speed EDC-Net network, which links each facility toenable sharing of technical resources, besides maintaining repository ofreusable applications, code strings and components that reduce time, effortand cost in software customisation, he said.

The GPS division, which contributes about 10 per cent of CA's $5.3 billionturnover, was planning to increase its share to 30 per cent in the nextcouple of years, he added.
