Pummy Kaul & Anamika Rath
New Delhi, Nov 17: Going global is no longer an option, it is a necessity, says the engineering company Maini Group director, Sandeep Maini, airing his views in the Young CEOs panel discussion on ``Building Global Indian stars''.Nodding assent sagely, were other panel speakers such as web-solution company Planet Asia president Anand Sudarshan and the chairman of Feedback Ventures Limited Vinayak Chatterjee; and of course, Suresh Rajpal, former Hewlett Packard head and present president and CEO of eCapital Solutions (India). But the moot points that Young CEOs with global ambitions need to remember are: The CEO needs to amalgamate the three cultures of business development, creative skills and software development, in particular in an Internet firm. The motto should be: Have fun, keep on running and gun for things which are beyond your grasp. Look at excellence as a practice and not as a goal. Build an information-based organisation, which has an effective system for accessing and using information. Appoint a knowledge officer. Ensure a positive attitude amongst employees Invest in research and development for long-term returns Remember the requisites for global growth: quality, delivery and cost Run training programmes to understand the nuances of the global system Ensure there is minimum response time Focus on quality institution building Build a framework on equity in mission, ownership, leadership and destiny.Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
