PFC disbursements touch Rs 300 crore in nine months
Having disbursed Rs 13.09 crore this week, the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has executed loans worth Rs 300 crore during the last nine months to private power projects. This would mean kick starting 19 of the private projects that would eventually add 5,073 mw. Although the thrust area is still the state sector, PFC has started funding the private power producers in a very big way,'' a top official in the corporation told UNI. Sanctions has touched Rs 3,401 crore over the last nine months while eleven more private power producers have applied for loans. Maharashtra government would try to bring down the power tariff charged by Dabhol Power Company (DPC), deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal said in Mumbai on Wednesday. Bhujbal, who recently visited the site in Guhagar in Ratnagiri district, told reporters after a cabinet meeting "we are studying the matter and are trying to find a solution in this regard." The deputy chief minister admitted that the current power tariff would put an extra burden on the people of the state. Asked whether phase II of the Dabhol power project would be stayed, Bhujbal said, "there is already much progress in phase II and it will not be proper to stop the work."
AAI plans origin-destination survey
The Airport Authority of India has planned to conduct an origin-destination survey of international passengers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at New Delhi and at the Amritsar airport project. The proposal for upgradation and development of the airport at Amritsar is under the consideration of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), an official source said in Moga on Wednesday. The inputs of the survey are required for inclusion in the proposal to be submitted to CCEA at the earliest. A lot of traffic to Europe and United States is generated from Punjab and the Punjab govenment is very keen for its upgradation.
Talks on Devanahalli airport
Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna on Wednesday met Union civil aviation minister Sharad Yadav in New Delhi and discussed about the long-pending international airport near Devanahalli. Recently, Yadav had said that the Centre would not not come in the way of establishing the airport and was willing to extend cooperation.
Ircon bags rail contract in Bangladesh
Ircon International Limited, a government undertaking under the railway ministry, has contracted with Bangladesh railways for "rehabilitating" a 245-km railway line. The Rs 243-crore project is funded by World Bank and Ircon has won this contract against tough international competition from France, China and other countries, an official release said on Wednesday. The work is to be completed within 28 months.
