Center must get out of non-core

Vandana Saxena
Mumbai, Nov 17: The Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) has suggested that the Government should target to double the per capita income by 2010.

Briefing the newspersons about a detailed proposal on "Economic development through quality of governance," which the chamber plans to submit to the Government shortly, BCCI president, KK Nohria said that the country should achieve a around 8 to 10 growth in economy during the first decade.

Nohria suggested that the government should get out of the non-core competency areas. "The chamber believes that the Government has no business to run the business," he said, adding that the Government should disinvest from non-strategic areas such as defense.
