Chennai, Nov 16: The Tata-Johnson Controls Automotive Ltd, a joint venture between Tata Autocomp Systems and US-based Johnson Controls, on Wednesday commissioned a plant that would manufacturing seating systems in the country.Inaugurated by Ford India managing director Phil Spender, the plant, located close to the US giant's plant at Maraimalainagar, will be supplying Ford with complete seating systems, a company press release here said. With an installed capacity of 30,000 seats a year, the company will initially supply two types of seating systems for the Ford Ikon. There is scope for doubling capacity at the site spread over three acres and the company would be eying other car majors in Tamil Nadu for supplying its seating systems. The company already has a manufacturing facility at Pune which fulfils the demands of auto majors like Tata Engineering (Telco), Daimler-Chrysler (Mercedes-Benz) and Fiat India (Uno).
While Tata Autocomp has joint ventures with manufacturers in the US, Japan, Germany and France for several auto parts, Johnson Controls is a market leader in seating and interiors of the global automobile industry.
