Mumbai, Nov 16: Activera, a collection of tools and technologies, that allows organisations to control their internal application and technical infrastructure, was officially launched in the country at Intelligent Enterprise '99.This collection of tools from JD Edwards Enterprise Software, compatible with Unix, AS 400 and Windows platforms, is aimed at the mid-segment market. The software, which uses Windows NT as the front-end, functions on every back-end and offers fault-free service, apart from allowing customisation of environment resource planning (ERP) in an organisation, claimed Ramesh Subramaniyan, a company spokesperson.
ActivEra provides components called activators, that enable business and technology professionals to implement custom changes, through its similarly titled Web-based portal. The portal, ActivEra, employs a front-end interface that allows end-users to configure and adjust the system using common English terms and easily understood graphical techniques.
The ActivEra portal and activators guide business and technology professionals through the necessary steps to shape the system to meet their specific needs, in turn eliminating the help of technologists and specialists."
JD Edwards, in the recent past, has emerged as one of the leaders in providing small to mid-sized companies with ERP solutions. This followed the reluctance of traditional heavyweights like SAP to tailor solutions for companies other than those that were outside the Fortune 1000 league.
While this has changed, the fact still remains that with the emergence of the internet, most companies which had implemented expensive ERP solutions were finding it increasingly difficult to leverage the flexibilites that the medium offers.
With the latest offering from JD Edwards, this problem, the company says, will be sorted out.
Neil Dibb, director, business development, said that even though at present the company has tie-ups with many partners for business, consulting alliance, implementation support and product alliance, the company is open to more.
