Shell Renewables charts marketing plan to push sales

C Chitti Pantulu
Hyderabad, Nov 12: In a bid to capture the market for non-conventional energy systems in India, Shell Renewables India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, has embarked on a new marketing strategy to push products as consumer durables.

The company has struck negotiations with several white goods manufacturers to bundle its solar photovoltaic (SPV), systems with refrigerators, TVs and other consumer durables for marketing in the rural areas of south India.

Shell Renewables, which started operations in India two years back, has also started negotiations with several NBFCs to provide easy leasing and finance options for those going in for its solar systems, Shell Renewables managing director Arvind Vijh said on Wednesday.

"While globally, as in India, the market for PV systems is driven by government subsidies but we are not necessarily looking at such support to push our products", he said on the eve of a series of seminars and workshops titles "Sunergy 2000" being conducted by the Shell Foundation to popularise non-conventional energy systems.

Shell Renewables is concentrating on south India for pushing its products and plans to set up several more Shell Solar Centres in the region. The company is basically pushing three kinds of packages beginning with the Solar Max Home Lighting systems which include between one to six lights and enough power to run a black and white TV for just Rs 10,000 to solar water pumping systems.
