CSE index up by 53.63 points on fresh buying

Calcutta, Nov 5: Equities reacted sharply to fresh positions being created by bull operators at the Calcutta Stock Exchange. CSE-40 index moved up touch a high of 2238.53 before coming down slightly to close at 2226.62, depicting a gain of 53.63 points over the previous closing.

Earlier, trading resumed on a steady note and values dipped marginally owing to selling pressure. However, recovery trend developed soon and led by Satyam Computers, Ranbaxy and ITC, a host of counters zoomed up sharply.During this period, counters such as Tata Tea, Reliance Industries and Pentafour Software remained stable, but they started rising in the last quarter of the session and finally closed with gains.

The closing undertone was distinctly firm as operators were found creating position on the occasion of 'dhanteras'.

Meanwhile in Chennai share prices rallied further on speculative and brisk buying support on the Madras stock market on Friday and closed with small to notable gains.

The MSE index rose by 94.92 points to close at 4774.80 over the previous close of 4679.88 points,

Reliance firmed up by Rs 6.30 to Rs 233.80, TELCO by Rs 4.75 to Rs 227.25 and Larsen by Rs 14.95 to Rs 405.60. Amrutanjan recovered by Rs 5.95 to Rs 411.60. Mcdowell was traded at Rs 153. Ranbaxy was well at Rs 963.60. Premier Mill moved down fractionally at Rs 49.95.

Among infotech counters, Sathyam moved up to Rs 1550.50 from Rs 1485.15. Pentafour Software further improved by Rs 40 to Rs 647. Polaris rose by Rs 4.90 to Rs 714, Cybermate by Rs 6.30 to Rs 111.20, Compudyne Winfos by Rs 1.70 to Rs 44, California Soft by Rs 1.50 to Rs 64, Kashyap Radiant by Rs. 2.35 to Rs 31.85, Odyssey Tech by Rs 2.50 to Rs 36, Advent Computer by Rs 2.55 to Rs 36.20 and Shri MM Soft by Rs 2.75 to Rs 123.25. Synergy Log regained Rs 4.80 at Rs 72.80. Gemini Communication and Info Drive also edged up.
