MUMBAI, Nov 4: With only a few days for the millenium clock to tick, hotel majors have started attracting corporates with a bevy of packages. From `Elephant Polo to Rajasthan Mela,' the packages are devised with an ethnic touch ostensibly to attract overseas executives who are gung-ho over the richness of Indian tradition. Starting from a nominal Rs 700 to as high as Rs 20,000, the rate for the millenium bash differ from hotel to hotel and is for a period from December 30 to January 1.``Large number of bookings in our hotels in Jaipur and Goa came from multinational executives. May be the opporunity to witness what is really Indian might have led to this `millenium rush','' says an offcial from Taj Group's marketing department.
Millennium celebrations at the Taj group's Jaipur Palace Hotel takes off with a culinary extravaganza on December 30 which is a voyage into the Rajasthan's varied culture. The millennium evening will unfold with the sound of traditional Indian instruments followed by dance forms like Kathak, Ghooar et al, said the official.
Oberoi Hotels is also having a similar type of event at its Raj Vilas in Jaipur. The celebrations on December 31 starts with a grand welcome of guests by decorated elephants and Indian musicians, according to a brochure from Oberoi Hotels.
At Cecil, in Shimla, a specila movie festival will orgiansed as part of the package, the official added.
While celebrations in Jaipur and Goa are rooted in tradition, Taj Group is playing a different game in metros like Mumbai. Celebrities and international band groups will form a part of the bonhomie in Mumbai, the official added.
This is done to preserve the cosmopolitan culture of Mumbai. Inside the famous Shamiana restaurant in Taj Mumbai, celebrations will take place amidst the presence of an Arabian lady (musician) playing a flute or lap, the official added.
For the millennium bashers, Ambassador Hotels has something to diffferent to offer. The group's hotel in Mumbai is putting together millenium show titled ``1000 AD'' which will recreate the thousand years of Chinese, Japanese and Korean histories.
