And, now bunk classes online

N Madhavan
Bangalore, Nov 4: Indian schools could soon be a part of the Internet revolution. They can have their own interactive website (free of cost) through which they can conduct on-line courses hold parent-teacher inter-actions electronically, post newsletters apart from giving details of the courses offered, the fee structure, exam calender, etc.

This is what, www.schoolcity.com, a product developed by CMOS Soft Pvt Ltd-the software-arm of the US-based $240 million CMOS seeks to offer to the Indian schools. In fact, the product, which is to be launched in India shortly, seeks to create a virtual community for schools, students, teachers and parents. Apart from putting up their own websites, the schools which are registered in the site can interact with each other on the curriculum, conduct inter-school quiz programme and other competitive exams.

Teachers can have their home page and virtual class rooms to conduct private tutions. They can hold classes for IIT, medical and other competitive exams without having to bother about space constraints. Absence of territorial boundaries would mean more revenues. As for the parents, they can interact with the teachers to know the progress of their children without having to take the pain of going to meet them. They can also get to know about the courses offered by various schools and other related details, download application forms without having to go and stand in the queue.

Students can create their own home page, communicate with each other, play games and even attend classes if they wish. u
