Tax mopup rises 14.1% in first seven months

New Delhi, Nov 3: Tax collections in the first seven months of the current financial year have recorded a growth of 14.11 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year. According to an official release, total tax mop till October 1999, is Rs 80,060.09 crore (Rs 70,163.04 crore). The total tax realisation in the month of October stood at Rs 11,011.04 crore (Rs 9,250.25 crore), a growth of 19.04 per cent. On the direct tax side, registering a growth of 6.93 per cent, total collection upto October this financial year is Rs 20,917.36 crore (Rs 19,561.48 crore). Direct tax collection in October is Rs 2,398.92 crore (Rs 1,929.65 crore), a growth of 24.32 per cent.

Income tax mop-up upto October this year is Rs 10,364.82 crore (Rs 8,716.97 crore), showing an increase of 18.90 per cent. Income tax collection in October has registered a growth of 7.37 per cent over the same month last year by collecting Rs 1,439.64 crore.

Corporate tax collection in the first seven months of the current financial year stood at Rs 10,433.46 crore (Rs 10,349.99 crore), a growth of 0.81 per cent only.

However, in October, corporate tax collection increased by 73.76 per cent over the same month last year by realising Rs 927.10 crore. On the indirect tax side, total collection in first seven months of the current financial year is Rs 59,142.73 crore (Rs 50,601 crore), registering a growth of 16.88 per cent. Indirect tax collection in October grew by 17.64 per cent over the same month last year realising Rs 8,612.12 crore.

Excise duty realisation upto October this year has been Rs 31,635.64 crore (Rs 26,488.63 crore) showing a growth of 19.43 per cent. In October 1999, excise duty realisation is Rs 4,663.33 crore-a growth of 14.10 per cent over the same month last year.

Customs duty collection in the first seven months of the current financial year is Rs 25,940.06 crore (Rs 22,563.38 crore) showing a rise of 14.97 per cent. The October 1999 collection of customs duty stood at Rs 3,749.48 crore registering a growth of 22.08 per cent over the collection figure of same month last year.
