Gold recovers, silver firms up; G'nut oil eases

Mumbai, Nov 3: Gold prices recovered from the lower level on the bullion market here today. Silver closed firm on the back of brisk festival buying ahead of Diwali.

Standard gold looked up by Rs 5 at Rs 4,595 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat was up by same margin at Rs 4,250 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) moved up by Rs 100 at Rs 53,900 per piece. Fresh festival buying at lower level pushed gold prices upward while eased supplies kept offerings remained restricted. Thin inflow of contraband gold coupled with frequent seizures by customs department also arrested the setback in gold prices, according to a broker here. In the global market gold ruled quiet at $292.50 per an ounce.

Silver .999 climbed by Rs 25 at Rs 8,210 per kg. Silver .916 shot up by Rs 80 at Rs 8,100 per piece. Continued festival buying attributed to sharp rise in silver prices while shortage of ready stock and firm Delhi and overseas advices kept offerings limited during the day. Traders reported volume of 600/700 kg of silver today. In the overseas market the white metal looked up 2 cents at $5.23 per an ounce.

G'nut oil eases
Groundnut eased further on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil ruled steady at lower level in the ready delivery while prices recovered on short covering in the forward section. Groundn t oil moved down by Rs 5 at Rs 365 per 10 kg.on poor festival buying. In Rajkot it was placed lower at Rs 580/585 per 15 kg.

Imported palm oil finished a rupee lower at Rs 196 per 10 kg on fresh setback in the overseas market. Besides fear of hike in the import duty by Union government and lower than expected Chinese demand kept prices downward in the international market, it was learnt. In the global market palm oil fell by $2.50 at $352.50 per tonne fo nearby delivry and $357.50/360 for long delivery, it was gathered.

Castor oil maintained at Rs 355/367 per 10 kg on stray overseas enquiries. Castorseed ready ruled quiet at Rs 1619/1625 per quintal.

In the future section castorseed December delivery opened lower at Rs 1654 (Rs1660) but later on short covering pushed prices upward to Rs 1672 per quintal, according to floor sources. In Ahmedabad December delivery ruled easy at Rs 1648 and February delivery was available at Rs 1647 per quintal.

In Rajkot December delivery placed Rs.2.50 higher at Rs 1656 per quintal. In the international castor oil future market, December delivery fell byRs 5 at Rs 375 and February delivery by Rs 7 at Rs 378 per 10 kg respectively.

Delhi
Edible oils decline

Soyabean prices in MP and Maharashtra were ruling at Rs 710-750 while its support prices are Rs 845 a quintal. Nafed has not yet pushed up its procurement.

Palmolein in Malaysia further dipped to $355 a tonne coupled with import of cheap edible oils and on selling pressure from the producing areas, groundnut, mustard and cottonseed mill delivery edible oils declined by Rs 20-50 a quintal. As compared to October 23 prices, mustard oil was down by Rs 300 at Rs 3400, groundnut oil fell sharply by Rs 350 at Rs 3650 and sesame oil drifted lower by Rs 200 at Rs 3500 a quintal. Among industrial oils, linseed, castor and ricebran oil tumbled down by Rs 45-100 a quintal due to sluggish demand from industrial consumers.

Sugar remains sluggish
Business in mill delivery sugar remained sluggish as sale of sugar through the rationing shops will continue as before. Mawana sugar ruled firm at Rs 1602 a quintal. Scattered demand in mill delivery sugar Simbhouli and Douralla was reported at Rs 1466 and Modi at Rs 1470 a quintal.

Copra falls
On inflow of roasted chilgoza from Pakistan, its prices fell from Rs 350 to Rs 315 a kg and raw and roasted chilgoza of Shimla also fell by Rs 30 at Rs 310-510 a kg. As against this, pistachio Peshwari shot up by Rs 50 at Rs 850 a kg due to poor crop. Pistachio Irani and Dody also firmed up by Rs 5-20 a kg while copra further fell by Rs 100 a quintal due to dull demand. Among spices, cardamom brown recorded a mild gain while turmeric showed a declining tendency.

Menthol flake improves
Titanium dioxide TTK, K brand and Dupont edged up by Re one per kg on better sales for paint and plastic units. Menthol flake, bold and thymol also improved on local support by Rs 5-10 per kg.
