Renewed selling softens Navi Mumbai turmeric, fennel

Mumbai, Nov 3: Lacklustre trading amidst inactivities, marked the week ended on October 30, on the Navi Mumbai commodities exchange. The nationwide strike of transporters had hit cargo movements, which delayed the movements of commodities in the country. Exporters fear cancellation of orders, which in turn, would result in heavy losses. Prices of turmeric, fennel, fenugreek and sesameseeds eased further on fresh selling pressures, while that of black pepper continued to soar. The prices of coriander, ajwain, tamarind and chilly remained steady.

Turmeric: Prices plummeted in lacklustre and listless conditions by Rs 50 per quintal. In Sangli spot ruled at Rs 3,000 and pits changed hands between Rs 2,750 and Rs 2,850. In Mumbai, FOL prices per quintal was quoted at Rs 2,975/3,000 for Nizamabad, Rs 2,875/2,900 for Duggirala, Rs 2,975-3,000 for Cuddapah and Rs 3,100-3,150 for the Sangli polished turmeric finger.

Coriander: Prices steadied amidst narrow fluctuations. Kanpur Avg machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1,475-1,500, Indore Avg machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1,350-1,375 and the 5 per cent bold machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1,675/1,700. The 100 per cent splits machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1,050/1,075 per quintal free on lorry (FOL) Mumbai.

Cumin: Prices remained steady at reduced levels. The one per cent machine cleaned for Singapore ruled at Rs 1,475-1,500 and Europe quality was priced at Rs 1,575-1,600. The four per cent machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1,425-1,450 per 20 kg FOL Mumbai.

Fennel: The prices of fennel reduced by another Rs 25 per 20 kg. The Dubai-Singapore quality was quoted at Rs 820-830, while London-Europe quality was quoted at Rs 890-900 per 20 kg FOL Mumbai.

Fenugreek: Fresh selling on the Navi Mumbai markets pushed down the prices further by Rs 25 per quintal. The one per cent best bold machine cleaned ruled at Rs 2,200-2,250, medium best machine cleaned at Rs 2,000-2,025 and Average machine cleaned at Rs 1,930- 1,950 per quintal FOL in Mumbai.

Dill: Prices ruled firm at lower levels. The one per cent machine cleaned ruled at Rs 4,450-4500 and the 11 per cent FAQ at Rs 4,000-4075.Ajwan: Steady and firm conditions continued to prevail. The Jamnagar variety ruled between Rs 7,000 and Rs 7,500. The MP Superior rules at Rs 6,500-7,000, and medium was priced at Rs 6,000-6,200 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Chillies: The prices of chillies ruled steady. Chilly with stem was priced at Rs 3,800-4,000, and chilly without stem ruled at Rs 4,900-5,000 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Tamarind: Tamarind prices remained steady at reduced levels. Basket ruled at Rs 2,600/2,800, slab at Rs 2,800/3,000, consumer packs at Rs 3,200-3,400 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Black pepper: Keeping in pace with the earlier trends, the prices continued to skyrocket. In Cochin, ready delivery ungarbled loose ruled at Rs 265 per kg. In futures section, the November contract ruled at Rs 271 per kg. The MG1 FOB Cochin ruled at Rs 280 and FOL Mumbai at Rs 280 per kg.

Ginger: Ginger prices were steady. Chinese ginger flooded the market and was offered at Rs 62/63 per kg. The NUGC good FOB Cochin ruled at Rs 84,000, and FOL Mumbai was quoted at Rs 85,000 per metric tonne.

Sesameseeds: Prices eased as arrivals gained momentum. The 98x2 cost Rs 2,800/2,850, 95x5 costs at Rs 2,700/2,750, and hulled washed at Rs 3,700-3,750. The export witnessed slow trends.

Peanuts: The prices of peanuts remained steady. The 45-55 counts ruled at Rs 2,450-2,500, 50-60 counts at Rs 2,350-2,400, 60-70 counts at Rs 2,300-2,400, 70-80 counts at Rs 2,350-2,350 and 80/90 counts at Rs 2,250 to 2,350.

Cardamom: Prices fell further as good arrivals continued. AGEB ruled at Rs 500-510, AGB at Rs 450/460, AGS at Rs 410/415 and AGS 1 at Rs 375/380 per kg.
