Marriott to open its Goa resort in Dec
US hospitality brand Marriott will make its debut in the country with the opening of Goa Marriott resort in December this year. The five star resort is being set up by the Salgaocar group in alliance with US-based Marriott International Inc. The hotel having elements of Goan architecture with Mediterranean touch will have a room capacity of 156 rooms, a company statement said. The hotel will also have a state-of-the-art business centre along with largest banqueting facilities in Goa, the statement claimed. Marriott International Inc with over 1,800 operating units in US and 52 in other countries also owns hotel brands like Ritz Calrton, Ramada International and Renaissance.Sudarshan Chemical net up 10%
Sudarshan Chemical Industries reported a 10 per higher net profit at Rs 4.88 crore during the half period ended September 30, 1999 as against Rs 4.45 crore of the corresponding period of the last year. The sales and other income of the company has increased to Rs 128 crore during the six month from Rs 125 crore while the gross profit was higher at Rs 12.48 crore as compared to Rs 11.70 of the previous year's corresponding period.
Atco net rises 10% to Rs 4.68cr
Atco Industries has posted 10 per cent higher net profit at Rs 4.68 crore for the half yearly ended September 1999. The company's income also improved by 61 per cent to Rs 61.89 crore. The company has paid a dividend of 30 per cent for the year ended March 31 1999. The turnover for the year 1998-99 was Rs 106.55 crore and net profit was Rs 13.25 crore.
Glaxo's new packaging
Glaxo India has introduced a new form of packaging for Ceftum, a potent second generation oral cephalosporin, indicated for urinary tract and respiratory infections. The product being a highly successful brand has caught the eye of several unscrupulous copiers especially in UP, Rajasthan & Bihar. Glaxo has, hence, decided to protect Ceftum-users by changing the ordinary foil packing to a new difficult to copy, double foil blister. This Alu-Alu blister pack has US FDA approval.
Wipro re-launches Santoor soap
Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting group has relaunched the Santoor brand of toilet soap with a functional quick-dry shape, redesigned premium packaging and an exhilarating perfume. "In research prior to the relaunch, consumers found the new look Santoor to be more youthful, modern and dynamic," Siba Ghosh, chief executive of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting said.
Andersen Consulting names partner
Abhijit Gajendragadkar has been appointed as associate partner with Andersen Consulting, the world's largest management consultancy firm. As associate partner, Gajendragadkar's primary responsibility will be in the automotive and industrial sectors and he will be based in Mumbai. He has degrees in electrical engineering, management and is also a qualified chartered accountant.
ISPAI chairman
Rajeev Arora, chairman and managing director, Datapro, has been re-elected as chairman of the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI). His appointment was announced at the national conference of ISPAI, held at Manali. The conference was attended by leading ISPs like Satyam Infoway, Global Telecom, HCL Comnet, Wipro, RPG Sprint, CG Fax, Hughes Escort and others.
LG total sales up 128%
LG Electronics on Wednesday claimed that the sale of its color TVs has crossed three lakh in the first ten months (Jan-Oct) of this year compared to 1.52 lakh TVs sold in the corresponding period last year. The total sales of the South Korean consumer electronic major during the period were up 128 per cent to Rs 865 crore from Rs 380 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Unitech Q2 net dips 42%
Unitech has reported a 42.5 per cent dip in net profit at Rs 1.5 crore for the second quarter ending September 30 from Rs 2.6 crore for the same period last year. This is despite a lower tax provision of Rs 46 lakh compared to Rs 1.4 crore for the quarter under review. The total expenditure shot up to Rs 44.6 crore from Rs 36.4 crore.
