The view from the Summit

Feel constrained to sit through the Theory of Constraints? Relax. This year's CII TQM Summit-to be held from November 17 to 19, at the Capital-has something for everyone, with the CII making a determined bid to accelerate the momentum of the TQM movement.

To create push where it matters the most-a whole day is being devoted to `Quality In Government'. It isn't an oxymoron apparently: the Summit will showcase TQM best practices in government departments across the country. The cleaning up of Surat, Orissa SEB privatisation, a literacy project in Madhya Pradesh, and process improvement in the departments of the Andhra Pradesh government.

The mascot for quality in India, Professor Y Tsuda from JUSE will present a full day workshop on Daily Work Management, with experience sharing from Sundaram Brake Linings, Asahi India, Brakes India, Sona Koyo and India Pistons.

As is usual, the first day will also see the announcement of the CII-Exim Award for Business Excellence-five companies are in the fray, this year.On a more unusual note, the CII has, for the first time, organised a Quality Expo-with exhibitors like software developers, ERP/SAP providers, measuring and testing equipment suppliers-to go with the Summit. Another first: poster sessions. For some quality networking.
