Naidu unveils APswan, APscan and videoconferencing facility

Hyderabad, Nov 1: AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has launched Andhra Pradesh State Wide Area Network (Apswan) and Andhra Pradesh Secrtariat Campus Network (Apscan) and video conferencing facility here on Monday, linking Hyderabad with 23 district headquarters in the state.

The project was taken up by the Naidu government as part of `Vision 2020,' initiated by him in an effort to bringing in transparency and accountability in state administration.

The project was implemented by Bangalore based United Telecoms Ltd (UTL), a Rs 200 crore group engaged in manufacturing and supplying telecom equipment, in association with Andhra Pradesh Technology Services Ltd (APTS) under Build-Own-Operate (BOO) agreement.

Naidu has said his government is working out plans to set up high-quality `Mobile OB vans', to establish direct links with the remote villages in the state. Further, Naidu wanted the district collectors to take up mass programes at village level to create awareness among the villagers.

Once public kiosks will be established at important places, public can access to the government information such as GOs, tender notices, development programes sactioned, said Naidu.

The network is configured for star topology centered at Hyderabad as a backbone for inter-office and intra-office communications through telephone, computers and video. It is fully protected with firewall there by avoiding unauthorised users, said Rao Kasarabada CEO of UTL. The Apscan, also inagurated on Monday, a largest campus network having 2000 nodes with ATM based Obtic Fibre backbone for voice and data communication among different users at Secretariat
