SKF Bearings back in black; posts Rs 4cr net
SKF Bearings India has reported a net profit of Rs 4 crore in the first half of the current fiscal as against a net loss of Rs 23.9 crore in the corresponding period last year.The company posted sales of Rs 175.1 crore in the first six months as against Rs 169.4 crore last year. An increase in interest and depreciation costs on account of capital expenditure on upgradations and for additional borrowings made to finance VRS programme has impacted profits, states a company release.

Nilkamal Plastics profit increases
Moulded plastic furniture & crates company Nilkamal Plastics has reported a 20 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 12.21 crore as against Rs 10.19 crore in the corresponding period last year. On a paid up equity capital of Rs 8.57 crore, the earnings per share (EPS) on an annualised basis works out to Rs 28.49 as against an EPS of Rs 23.83.

Gammon net rockets 71%
Gammon India has reported a net profit of 71 per cent to Rs 6.36 crore in the first half of the current fiscal as against Rs 3.71 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. The turnover for the half year period increased by 73 per cent to Rs210 crore as against Rs121 crore for the corresponding period last year.

Silverline bags $2m order
Software firm Silverline Industries bagged a $2 million e-commerce project from Ecomparts.com, US, the company said in a statement on Monday. Silverline will help Ecomparts.com design and operate an Internet-based transaction system, it said. Ecomparts.com is a solution provider to National ServicesCooperative Inc, which provides foodservice equipment replacement parts and repair services in the US.

Otis nine-month net dips
Otis Elevator Company (India) has posted a 6.02 per cent drop in profit to Rs 11.87 crore for the nine-month period ending September 30, 1999 as against Rs 12.63 crore in the corresponding period of last year. During the same period the company has, however, reported sales of Rs 184.82 crore, 14.84 per cent higher than the previous year's sales for the first nine months.

Paramount posts 154% jump in net
Paramount Communications, a telecom and power cable manufacturer, has reported a 154 per cent growth in net profit at Rs 1.39 crore against Rs 0.54 crore in the first half of current fiscal. The net sales was up by 64 per cent from Rs 28.42 crore to Rs 46.71 crore for the first six months ended on September 30 in comparison to the same period last year, managing director Sanjay Aggarwal said in a statement here today.

HOC sales rise up a tad
The state-owned Hindustan Organic Chemicals has posted a 124 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 3.22 crore during the first half of the current fiscal against Rs 1.44 crore in the same period last year. During the period, production and sales increased marginally to 1.30 lakh tonnes and 99,799 tonnes from 1.28 lakh tonnes and 95,049 tonnes in the corresponding period of 1998-99, a company release said. Improvement in the performance was primarily due to cost-cutting measures and improvement of efficiency, the release said.

Hikal posts Rs 7.6cr net
Hikal Chemical Industries has registered a net profit of Rs 7.60 crore for the half year ended September 30, 1999, as against a loss of Rs 2.74 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Net sales including other income jumped to Rs 49.08 crore as against Rs 19.46 crore in the previous year.

S Kumar Synfabs sales up
S Kumar Synfabs has posted a substantial jump in net profit at Rs 19.17 crore the quarter ended September 30, 1999 against Rs 4.85 crore during the same period last year. Net sales has gone up to Rs 147.16 crore as compared with Rs 109.08 crore. While total expenditure for the quarter ended September 30 1999 was at Rs 104.65 crore, interest was at Rs 96.68 crore. Gross profit (after interest but before depreciation and taxation) was at Rs 27.15 crore against Rs 7.52 crore.
