New Delhi, Oct 29: The Comptroller and Auditor General has taken a serious view of `sluggish execution' of projects by the department of atomic energy and the Nuclear Power Corporation to step up power generation to touch 7880 mw target by the turn of the century despite sanction of adequate funds and clearances. As per the plan, the plants were to be completed by 1995-96 to add a generation capacity of 940 mw, gradually increasing every year thereafter to reach the target. "But the sluggish execution of projects had rendered it impossible to achieve the target with not a single plant completed by March last year." No additional capacity of nuclear power was added till 1997-98 against the target of 2645 mw.
In his report for the year ended March 1998 submitted to the just-concluded Parliament session, the CAG observed that funds to the tune of Rs 581.69crore in different scientific departments remained unspent during 1997-98.
