Indonesia is top Australian wheat market
FE NEWS SERVICE
Sydney: Iran, Egypt and Indonesia were the top three destinations for Australian bulk wheat exports in the shipping year to September 30, AWB Ltd figures released on Friday show.Iran replaced Indonesia as the top destination latest year, taking 1.66 million tonnes, followed by Egypt, on 1.50 million tonnes. Indonesia was third, with 1.41 million tonnes, down from 2.42 million tonnes in the year before. AWB made no comment on the figures on Friday. However, Indonesian purchases of Australian wheat were affected by inroads made by increased United States wheat sales to Indonesia, through donations and subsidised export schemes, in the latest year. Toward the end of the shipping year Indonesia also threatened to stop importing Australian wheat because of a plitical disagreement between the two countries over East Timor.
