According to the airline chairman HH Shrikh Ahmed bin Seed Ai-Maktoum, the decision to reduce flights during the millennium rollover is not due to concerns over the Y2K problem but because of the lack of demand. On Mumbai-Dubai sector, the airline has decided not to operate two flights. These include the Dubai-Mumbai flight, which was scheduled to leave Dubai at 10.45 pm on December 31, and arrive Mumbai on January 1, at 3 am and the following Mumbai-Dubai flight which was to leave Mumbai on January 1, at 4.30 am to reach Dubai at 6 am on the same day. The airline chairman said the company is "responding to its customers' desire to travel beforehand to celebrate the dawn of a new millennium at a place of their choice rather than on board."
