Finolex Cables H1 net doubles to Rs 30.95 cr

Geeta Nair
Pune, Oct 25: Finolex Cables Ltd has recorded a 100 per cent jump in profits and a 62 per cent rise in its sales and other income during the six-month period to September 30, 1999.

Sales and other income touched a figure of Rs 243.3 crore as compared to Rs 150.2 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Income from operations grew by 66 per cent, while the non-operating income showed a marginal change. Profit before tax for the half year stood at Rs 43 crore, up by 107 per cent over Rs 20.8 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. The net profit has gone up from last year's Rs 15 crore to Rs 30.95 crore.

Volumes of around 44 per cent were driven by sizeable orders for its telecome cables from the Department of Telecommunication (DoT). Civil works at the company's new project at Verna, Goa will add to the capacity of its jelly-filled telephone cables, which is nearing completion. Installation and commissioning of machinery and equipment have commenced and trial production is slated towards the end of December 1999. The expansion of its co-axial and LAN cable manufacturing facility have also gathered momentum and off-the-shelf deliveries are expected soon.

The company has now become a major sourcing point for internationally established automobile harness makers and has recently launched 105 degree celsius temperature resistant thin-walled wire for this segment.
