Labour ministry will work for employment generation

Dinesh Chandra
New Delhi, Oct 15: Creation of more employment opportunities would be the top priority of the government, the new minister of state for labour and employment Muni Lall said here on Friday.

Talking to newspersons after assuming office, the minister said special efforts would be made to generate additional employment opportunities for the youth. Employment generation must keep pace with the increasing population, he said.

Abolition of child labour would be another priority of the government, the minister said adding that more industries would be added to the list of hazardous industries where child labour was banned.

The minister also informed that the second National Labour Commission would be constituted soon. The decision to set up the commission had been taken by the previous government.

The commission would go into the entire gamut of the labour problem, and also suggest amendments in the present laws to bring them in consonance with the need of the times.
