Centre reshuffles 26 bureaucrats

New Delhi, Oct 15: As part of a bureaucratic reshuffle involving 26 officials, the Government on Friday appointed S Narayan as new petroleum and natural gas secretary and Ravindra Gupta as the civil aviation secretary.

Incumbent civil aviation secretary PV Jayakrishnan has been shifted to the newly-created ministry of information technology while petroleum secretary TS Vijayaraghavan has moved to department of heavy industries and public enterprises.

The reshuffle has been carried out in the wake of establishment of new ministries and departments to focus on priority areas, said an official spokesperson.

A Joshi, currently additional secretary in surface transport, has been promoted as secretary in the newly-created department of road transport and highways, while R Vasudevan, another secretary in the same ministry, has been appointed secretary in the new department of shipping.

Arvind Verma, currently secretary, mines, has been shifted to chemicals and petro-chemicals in place of Dipak Chatterjee who will take over as new secretary, mines, in the newly-created ministry of mines and minerals.

CT Benjamin, secretary, SSI, has been appointed secretary, department of industrial development in the newly-created ministry of commerce and industry.

RP Sinha, secretary, department of sugar and edible oils, has been appointed adviser, Planning Commission. Sinha has been replaced by current heavy industry secretary P Shankar.

Vinod Vaish, currently special secretary, environment and forests, has been made secretary in newly-created department of telecom services in the communications ministry.

Bhure Lal, secretary, Central Vigilance Commission, has been shifted to the newly-created ministry of tribal affairs while SK Tripathi, currently in the cadre, has been appointed as secretary in the newly-created department of drinking water supply in the rural development ministry.

SS Chattopadhyay, adviser, Planning Commission, has been made secretary in the newly-created ministry of urban employment and poverty alleviation.

Education secretary MK Kaw would now be secretary in the newly-created department of secondary education and higher education. He will also hold additional charge of secretary in another new department of elementary education and literacy.

PR Dasgupta, secretary in ministry of rural development, would head the Food Corporation of India as its chairman.

PL Sanjeeva Reddy, currently adviser, Planning Commission, has been appointed secretary in department of rural development in place of Dasgupta.

Arun Bhatnagar, currently adviser, Planning Commission, would replace DK Manavalan as secretary in department of youth affairs and sports.
