Saral set to keep VXL's cash-registers ringing

Mini K Joseph
Bangalore, Oct 12: Computer terminal and monitor manufacturer VXL Instruments Ltd's new business communication division has set a sales target of Rs 40 crore for the first year of operations, said company vice-president (marketing) NK Rajasekharan.

Rajasekharan said the company is getting set to launch a computerised cash register christened Saral-CCR in the Indian market within a month. Saral is expected to replace the traditional cash register systems in the country. He said the new product will have the functionality of a PC with a price of a cash register. The product is expected to cost around Rs 27,000. Saral has a wide screen and can be connected to an ordinary printer. The user-friendly and all-weather Saral does not require any UPS back-up to function, he claimed.

According to Rajasekharan, the product is being test marketed in Bangalore and some select parts of Karnataka and the formal launch is scheduled for November. The marketing would be carried out through channel partners, he added.

To cater to the small-and-medium office network solutions, the company plans to launch a server-based network solution device, PentaStar, by November. PentaStar with two options -- Windows and Linux-based -- would connect three to six workstations (PCs) to a single server.

"VXL is planning to cash in on the traditional cash register market and we are targeting to sell around 10,000 units of Saral in a year across the country to achieve Rs 20 crore business," Rajasekharan said. He said the company has set a business target of Rs 20 crore each for Saral and PentaStar to achieve a total turnover of Rs 40 crore. VXL recently launched a replacement scheme to help business establishments that still use traditional cash registers but plan to replace the old system with a computerised cash register device. The replacement package includes a cash register, a printer and an EPABX system.
