Bangalore, Oct 12: Umesh Tibrewal, founder of vSplash.com, is planning to sell 20 to 30 per cent stake in its American subsidiary, vSplash.com Inc, to a venture capital fund for an undisclosed amount.Tibrewal, who is also chief executive officer of vSplash.com, told The Financial Express that the company had already zeroed in on a venture capital fund in the US. The American subsidiary would be the marketing arm of vSplash.com Ltd. "A formal announcement regarding the strategic alliance is expected within a couple of months," he added, without naming the partner.
Incidentally, the company is unveiling its first branded infotech product -- vSplash kit -- in the US market next month. With the help of the kit, the company will enable the customer to set up a virtual business, create a family website to keep in touch with relatives and hunt for jobs. The kit, which will be priced below $100, can be splashed in six different international languages and will be marketed through e-commerce ventures.
"Globally, we are eyeing 1 million users in the first year of operation, while the target for the Indian market will be 1.5 lakh users. The price for the kit in the country will be about Rs 2,000-3,500. The target segment will be the home and corporate sectors, and professionals," he added.
The company is kicking off a multi-crore advertisement campaign shortly to build the brand. The campaign includes advertisement in print and channel media, in addition to alliances with schools and other institutions. "This will be the first branded infotech product available across the globe with a multi-crore investment," Tibrewala claimed.
Product enhancement of the vSplash kit every 30 days is also being planned. The company is appointing more than 150 ambassadors (dealers) across 58 cities to distribute the product, in addition to alliances with internet service providers (ISPs) and OEM vendors in the country.
"Setting up a virtual business can be done with the help of vSplash kit, which provides a comprehensive Web solution rather than just a website. The kit is armed with new technologies, which take Web animation to a new level and it comes in an attractive range of cost-effective designs customisable to meet one's specialised requirements," he said.
The company plans to offer a variety of designs under different categories on the website including family, kids, travel, media, personal, art, fashion, resumes, business, sport and students. The entire website that is made can be downloaded on to a floppy disk as an .exe file.
The product was developed by a team of 30 professionals, which will be augmented to 100 shortly, spending 150 days and more than 4,000 hours of research among customers, segments and end-users at the company's software development centre in Hyderabad.
