ITC Ltd appears to be making an attempt to shed its blues. While its recent performance has not been anything to be ecstatic about, the low levels to which the stock price has descended would tempt to take a look at it now. From Rs.980 to Rs.827, it has been a big fall.If in recent times the price has failed to pick up, I wonder if the ongoings in the US market has rubbed its effect down here. The US government is suing tobacco companies for billions of damage for recovery of the money the government health scheme spent to treat tobacco related sickness.
The scene in India is a far cry from this. We neither have public funded health care scheme nor do the politicians bother about even the mouth cancer that comes from chewing tobacco. But the US case may be a passing phase, with legal infirmity. ITC has found the bottom and is rising. It is certainly worth lighting up the ITC portfolio now.
