OOPS set to provide managed e-mail services for corporates

Nitya Varadarajan
Chennai, Sept 26: Object Oriented Programming Services (OOPS) is planning to provide managed e-mail services for corporates which would work out to be more flexible than existing options.

Speaking to The Financial Express, OOPS CEO Kartik Iyer said with the company's core competence in networking, messaging and communication, it was all set to handle a long-felt need of corporates requiring e-mail.

As the e-mail service would be outsourced by OOPS, companies needn't worry about leased lines, back-up servers, servicing and security issues. If the employer is willing, employees would be given e-mail addresses that would be secure and personal for a fee of around Rs 100 per month per user. The address would also have a domain name that would be suggestive of the company, improving its brand.

Not many corporates allow their employees to access mail and usually a common domain name is provided to all which does not have scope for privacy.

Here, OOPS would provide a Web-based interface with theexisting network and software of the corporate, enabling e-mail for all. The service, while ensuring security from hacking, would at the same time protect data within the company network from being corrupted, which invariably happens if free internet access is allowed to all.

OOPS is also in talks with ISPs for allowing online registration with the ISP by the customer. It has a software called I-Dial which allows automatic dial-up with the ISP, handling of multiple ISP accounts, automatic update of new ISP numbers in different locations and the roaming facility numbers where necessary. The software, which is onto its third version, has got more than 40,000 users and would be upgraded further with online registration once negotiations are completed with ISPs.

OOPS plans to set up a sister company, which would focus exclusively on intranet telephony and computer telephony integration applications for which it already has the technology.

The venture is likely to finalised in four weeks and will go beyondmere system integration to offering an end-to-end solution off the shelf at very competitive prices.
