Re-polling recommended in two polling stations in Nawada

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Patna, Sep 24: Election Commission secretary K J Rao on Friday recommended re-polling in two polling stations in Nawada (SC) Parliamentary constituency, where number of ballots cast exceeded the listed voters and ink was poured in ballot boxes.

Complaints of such irregularity in five booths had been made by the returning officer of Nawada constituency. Rao told reporters here that the step was taken on the direction of the CEC after he visited Nawada. The number of ballots cast exceeded the number of voters in polling station number seven, while at Govindpur polling station, ink was poured in ballot boxes. No irregularity was found in three other booths as complained, he said.

"I have submitted my report to the CEC and suggested that re-polling in these two polling stations be held on October 3 along with the third phase of polling in Bihar," Rao said. Rao said on the directive of the CEC he had also visited Nalanda and met the district magistrate, SP and apprised them of the EC's concerns.
