Calcutta, Sept 24: Steady conditions persisted on the Calcutta Stock Exchange with Reliance continuing to attract renewed support. While selected others moved up, for others in the specified list activity was restricted. The turnover was moderate and the CSE 40-share index closed at 2298.90 points. Earlier, during the day, the index moved between 2310.00 points and 2263.55 points.The trading commenced behind schedule and attendance at the ring was thin due to a transport dislocation in the city caused by heavy overnight rain which flooded most of the roads.
Reliance attracted renewed support which pushed up thes hare at close at Rs 211.20. Other major gainers were Tisco at Rs 143, Telco at Rs 280.60, Tata Tea at Rs 571.80 and SBI at Rs 213.30 with Larsen looking up at Rs 362.80.H. Lever encountered fresh support and closed at Rs 2579.30. ITC shed some ground at Rs 878.40, while CESC was pegged at Rs 39.75. Satyam Computer closed at at Rs 1072.70.
In Chennai, equities firmed up further on sustained buying support on the Madras Stock Exchange and settled with small to notable gains. But a few counters drifted and closed with marginal losses.
The MSE share price index rallied by 78.39 points to close at 4599.88 points over the previous close of 4521.49 points. Reliance strengthened further by Rs 12.50 to Rs 208.50. Amrutanjan firmed up by Rs 26.80 to Rs 362.10. Sofia Software improved by Rs 8.60 to Rs 116.20 while Shri MM Softek declined by Rs 5.05 to Rs 106.45. Manjushree Plantations climbed up by Rs 10 to Rs 170.
