Calcutta, Sept 19: The Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) witnessed basically a dull week for cargo handling except the handling of imported edible oil at Calcutta dock and crude handling at the Haldia oil jetty during the period from September 10 to 16.According to CPT sources, the handling of various edible oil, such as refined bridged degummed (RBD) palmolein, rapesed oil etc at Budge Budge jetty of the Calcutta dock system was exceptionally good enough with a total of 20,600 tonnes compared to 8,800 tonnes and 5,200 tonnes in the previous two weeks.
Besides, a consignment of bulk rapeseed containing 9,762 tonnes from France arrived at the Calcutta dock during this time.
However, there was no arrival of edible oil at the Haldia dock during the period under review. Around 3,000 tonnes of RBD palmolein was handled there in the previous week. Moreover, a single consignment of rapeseed containing 13,000 tonnes from Bordens arrived at Haldia at the same week.
The handling of containers at the Calcutta dockdeclined to 1,715 TEUs from a record handling of 3,888 TEUs previous week. Out of 1,715 TEUs, as many as 1,215 TEUs went to Singapore and Colombo ports. The poor handling of petroleum oil and lubricant products is still continuing at Calcutta dock with 13,200 tonnes and 10,200 tonnes respectively in the past two weeks.
The throughput of the same at the Haldia oil jetty was 78,000 tonnes compared to 77,126 tonnes in the previous week. Of 78,000 tonnes of POL products, superior kerosene oil accounted for 40,000 tonnes. The throughput of crude at the Haldia oil jetty increased to 1,41,000 tonnes from 75,000 tonnes in the previous week.
