Ahmedabad, Sept 17: Reliance Petroleum Ltd (RPL) has commissioned the single point mooring (SPM) system, 20 km off the coast, with a capacity for direct evacuation from ULCCs (ultra large crude carriers) of up to 300,000 dwt and to carry crude or petroleum products to the refinery site at Jamnagar through pipelines.According to a company spokesman, the RPL complex, thus, armed itself with the country's single largest port terminal to handle up to 50 mtpa of commodity as against plant's capacity of 27 mtpa.
The sophisticated navigation equipment, communication system and support vessels could now permit 24-hours operations 365 days with adequate draft for all types of vessels at the Jamnagar port, with access to world scale tank farms, product despatch and pipeline network.
The company has also decided to discontinue the present lighterage system.
The Rs 14,250 crore RPL refinery when fully commissioned will account for nearly 25 per cent of the country's refining capacity.
