Senior state police officials fear that the crackdown on naxalites in Andhra Pradesh would force the ultras to flee to the neighbouring Orissa. "As it is naxalites are quite active in the state. Fresh infiltration will make the situation more volatile during the election time," a senior police official told The Financial Express here.

Meanwhile, on growing suspicion that naxalites belonging to PWG would create trouble in the three southern Orissa Lok Sabha constituencies bordering Andhra Pradesh during the election time, the state police have stepped up surveillance in the area.

The police, in fact, have every reason to be worried as PWG has been quite active in Parlakhemundi assembly segment of Berhampur constituency, Chitrakonda and Rayagada segments of Koraput, and Malkangiri of Nawarangpur constituency.

The activities of thefrontal organisations of PWG like the Chasi Mulia Royat Sangha, Radical Student Organisation and UPSF have turned the Andhra Pradesh-Orissa border region quite volatile. Since PWG is not an outlawed organisation in Orissa, sympathisers of the outfit have lately started organising public meetings in these areas.

What, however, has perturbed the state administration and the officials of the chief electoral office the most is poll boycott call given by PWG. Its frontal organisations have started distributing publicity materials exhorting the electorate of Berhampur, Koraput and Nowaragpur to abstain from voting.

"In the name of democracy and elections, capitalists are usurping power in the country to protecting their own interest," says a leaflet.

Pollings in Koraput and Nowarangpur is scheduled for September 25; Berhampur will vote on October 3.

State police and election authorities have been taking the naxalite poll boycott call seriously for the ultras had, though in a minor scale, created trouble inpast elections to enforce their dictates.
