New Delhi, Sept 16: The Election Commission is fully equipped with the latest in information technology for the conduct of the remainder of the 13th general elections.Speaking to the media here on Thursday, deputy election commissioner Subas Pani said the commission's website can be accessed from www.eci.gov.in, www.election-india.com adn www.india-election.com.
The IT network consists of three main components. One part covers basic information on the electoral system in the country, the Election Commission, the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the electoral system and elections, press releases and key statistics.
The second part covers the entire range of electoral laws, manuals, handbooks, instructions and directives. Most of these are textual matters and cover more than 10,000 pages of printed material. The third part contains comprehensive data on electors, polling stations, political parties, poll schedules, number of candidates, counting trends and results.
The massive IT network will helpmaintain regular contact with 32 CEOs of states and Union Territories as well as the returning officers of all constituencies, Pani said.
He said that the progress in counting of votes and declaration of results will be "dynamically updated" for each segment in parliamentary and assembly constituencies and immediately placed on the website.
The maps, including party position for each state, are also dynamically updated and placed on the website. A unique feature is the availability of the dynamic component of the data on electoral events in Hindi. Further, there is news flash giving the latest results in a summary form, he said.
