Touching tribute

It was a tribute from the great writers of our country to great international personalities. At a function held in Mumbai recently, 16 Indian poets recited the verses they had written in honour of the world's most distinguished people.

Organiser Arvind Asher had selected those personalities whose work was an example for others in society, among them being Nelson Mandela, Alfred Nobel, the Dalai Lama, George Bernard Shaw, Mahatma Gandhi, William Shakespeare and Prophet Mohammed. He then compiled brief life sketches of them, which he passed on to those poets who he thought would do justice to the task.

Abdul Ahad Saaz, Ahmed Wasi, Ibrahim Ashk, Ravindra Rawal, Ravindra Jain and Naqsh Lyallpuri were among the participating poets
